Why this topic?
Because almost all hosting providers have already changed their Linux environment to CloudLinux. So we all must be aware about this smart technology.
CryBit already shared some interesting topics on CloudLinux. In this topic I’m going to explain the advantages of CloudLinux over traditional hosting.
Check the category CloudLinux for more related articles on this technology.
Now-a-days almost all hosting providers offers CloudLinux especially in a shared environment. CloudLinux was firstly introduced in 2010. It supports major webhosting control panels like cPanel, Plesk and DirectAdmin.
CloudLinux is a Linux based Operating system especially used in a shared environment which isolates each user in its own light weight virtualized environemnts (LVE) which consumes predefined amount of resources allocated for each user.
That is, each user will be in a caged environment.
The resource usage of any user won’t affect the stability of another users. Each user will be allocated a specific amount of resources.
If a user’s PHP script utilizes the entire resources allocated to it, then it won’t affect other users. Only that particular user will face problems related to this.
That particular user will get a “Resource limit reached” error while he access his website.
CloudLinux installation guide
Installation of CloudLinux is very easy. If you’ve CentOS server (5.x or 6.x) server, then follow the steps below to install CloudLinux.
Download the CloudLinux repo to the server. Read more….
Advantages of CloudLinux
There are a lot of advantages on CloudLinux OS over the traditional Linux system. Here, I’m explaining some of them.
1. High stability by controlling the resources for a single user
As we know, this technology is based on LVE (Light weight Virtualized Environment). Each user in the server will be in a caged environment.
In a shared server, the most common reason for downtime is a single account on the server using most of the resources and slowing down other domains on that server. In CloudLinux, LVE will help to overcome this problem.
2. High server security
With CageFS enabled in CloudLinux based servers, the data/information of a user won’t be available to other users. Hence it prevents a large number of security vulnerabilities.
3. High server efficiency
Resource monitoring technique in CloudLinux helps to eliminate the need to leave the server resources in an idle stage. We can create more number of users in a CloudLinux servers by comparing to traditional servers.
4. Hardened kernel
It can protect against symlink attacks and trace exploits.
5. Multiple PHP versions
By installing PHP selector module in CloudLinux based server, each user will have the ability to select the PHP version that required from their control panel. This doc explains how to install PHP selector on CloudLinux server.
6. Admin interface within cPanel & WHM
You can simply manage & configure this from the WHM panel. A lot of other features are available with CoudLinux technology.
